LET LOOSE
WE’RE BACK
Welcome to the the second edition of Let Loose, a Lindy Hop & Solo Jazz workshop in Copenhagen!
We aim to challenge you, give you a chance to let loose and discover new things about yourself as a dancer. We also aim to give you the chance to reconnect with the roots of Lindy Hop, its improvisational character and its relationship with swing jazz.
We want a cozy event, big enough to have an international vibe, but small enough to get to dance with everyone and feel like we are at the workshop together, while enjoying our finest local musicians and best international DJs.
Let Loose is brought to you by Hepcats Copenhagen.
LEARN FROM THE BEST
FANTASTIC TEACHERS
We have invited teachers who represent all the things that we think are important in the dance right now. Teachers who share our thoughts about Lindy Hop as a fun, rhythmical and playful dance with a long and important history. And teachers who are just great at…teaching!
HANNA & MATTIAS
Fast, high-energy Lindy Hop and explosive airsteps are Hanna and Mattias’ trademarks but they master all tempos and are also known for their tap skills and dynamic solo jazz.
In their own words their hearts will always belong to the era of the 30’s and 40’s and the best lindy troupe of all times, Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers, but they are not afraid to mix their solid base of original roots with other influences.
Both individually, as a couple and as former members of The Rhythm Hot Shots and Harlem Hot Shots they have years of experience teaching and performing, including several appearances on tv.
This is not their first time teaching in Copenhagen and we’ve missed them, so we are really happy to have them back for another round of really well planned, fun and challenging classes.
MIMMI & FREDRIK
There are really no other dancers out there who look like Mimmi and Fredrik. They get their inspiration from the old movies and love the raw style of the Savoy ballroom but both as dancers and teachers they add their personalities and make the material their own.
Mimmi & Fredrik Fredrik started their dancing careers as social dancers at Chicago Swing Dance Studio in Stockholm and have been members of Harlem Hot Shots since 2012.
Fredrik is also known for singing and playing trumpet in the Hornsgatan Ramblers and Mimmi can sometimes be heard singing with them.
FATIMA TEFFAHI
Again….again….again…voila! We’ve tried to bring Fatima to Copenhagen several times to teach authentic jazz and we are really happy that we could finally make it work for Let Loose.
Ever since she began with tap in the 1980’s, Fatima has been looking to the Afro-American dancers from the 1920’s to 40’s for their original style. What can be said for her roots as a tap dancer applies to her vernacular jazz as well: The skill of the masters of the swing era, whose testimony has survived in old movies to this day, is the source of Fatima’s knowledge and inspiration.
Fatima is one of the original members of The Rhythm Hot Shots, now Harlem Hot Shots, and a co-founder of the Chicago Swing Dance Studio in Stockholm where she lives.
LISTEN AND LET LOOSE
GREAT BANDS AND DJS
Copenhagen has a proud jazz tradition. Weʼve asked some of the most swinging musicians in town to play for us. And our three amazing DJs will keep you dancing all night.
FLYING JAZZMAN QUINTET
Jan Nielsen has a long history playing alongside Danish and American jazz legends. He’s spent years in the US and has played New Orleans on a regular basis. Jan formed his own band with the aim to play specifically for dancers in 2016.
The handpicked musicians and the repertoire of the Flying Jazzman Quintet are inspired by the great, old swingbands – Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. The aim is to always fill the dance floor and to cater for dancers of all levels who enjoy swinging jazz classics from the 1930’s and 40’s.
Jan Nielsen, piano & vocal
Ole Ulvedal, double bass
Niclas Bardeleben, drums
Jan Harbeck, saxophone & clarinet

BJÖRN INGELSTAM SWINGTET
Trumpet player Björn Ingelstam is a familiar face in the Copenhagen jazz scene and has been playing for dancers many times, not only here but also in his homeland Sweden, including at Snowball, and in New York City where he has lived and worked for several years. He has been a featured soloist at Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York Hot Jazz Fest, New Orleans Jazz Fest and Gothenburg Jazzfestival and several other big events. For Let Loose he has handpicked some of the best musicians in Scandinavia to guarantee you an evening of dancer friendly swinging quality jazz.

You social dance on a regular basis and have participated in several international workshops. Your main focus is not to learn new moves but to improve the quality of your own dancing and deepen your understanding of Lindy Hop and solo jazz.
These levels will go through a group split on Saturday morning. This will be lead by the teachers, who will divide the dancers into two different groups, and we aim to make it a relaxed and positive experience.
On these levels you will have 3 hours of solo jazz and 5 hours of Lindy Hop.
